My Best Friend Dog Training

Communication is the key!

Do you wish your dog would do what you ask? Often, the problem lies in how we humans communicate with our dogs. Unfortunately, what might seem crystal clear to us can leave our dogs very confused!

Through My Best Friend Dog Training, Judy Archer-Dick and Margery Latchaw work together to help owners learn how to communicate more effectively and successfully with their pet dogs.

Our primary goal is to help owners learn three things:

  • how to teach their dogs the behaviors they want them to do
  • how to communicate clearly and consistently through signals, cues, and awareness of our own behavior, so the dog will do what we ask when requested
  • management techniques to avoid undesirable behaviors while the dog is learning

When these three things can be accomplished, it is possible to have a great relationship with our dogs, with minimal conflict and maximum communication, trust and fun!

Attention, basic obedience behaviors, household manners, walking on leash without pulling, coming when called, polite greetings, "drop it" and "leave it" are common behaviors that owners want their dogs to learn. Jumping up to greet, pulling on leash, and not coming when called are some of the common behaviors that many dog owners struggle with.

We have both achieved the nationally respected designation of CPDT (Certified Pet Dog Trainer) and are professional members of the APDT. We are also both graduates of Purdue University's DOGS! Course: Principles and Techniques of Behavior Modification.
