Margery or Judy will come to your home and work with you and your dog on whatever your training needs are, whether it is a foundation of basic behaviors you need to have on cue to live happily and successfully with your puppy or newly adopted adult dog, or for assistance solving most behavior problems or issues.
-
Public parks, dog-friendly stores, veterinarian’s office, and more. Move the training you have done at home or in the training room to real life situations with coaching from Margery or Judy.
-
Outdoor space to work with you and your dog which works well as an alternative to working at the client’s home, or as a location to begin working with more distractions. A spacious, fenced outdoor area gives opportunity to work with new and realistic distractions, and a quiet cul-de-sac in front is excellent for leash walking practice. (Margery only)
-
Bring your puppy or adult dog to Margery for a scheduled 1-hour training session. The “Drill Sergeant” will spend the hour practicing the repetitions that are so helpful to our dogs’ learning, with the added benefit of working through the distractions of being in a new environment. This works very well as a boost between regular training sessions, and saves training time for our clients.
-
Margery or Judy can meet with you via Zoom, FaceTime (or other options) for a Training Session or Behavior Consult. While not quite the same as in-person sessions, these sessions can be very productive. New behaviors can be introduced – the trainer will have a “demo dog” with her in view of the camera, and can also see the client working with their own dog to coach/give notes for continued progress. Behavior problems or issues can be discussed, and the foundation behaviors necessary for Behavior Modification to be successful can be started.
Group Training

It is hard to imagine a dog sport that is more natural to a dog than Nose Work! Instead of constantly being told to move along, your dog will be rewarded for using his nose to find a specific odor in the environment. All dogs in the class are worked one at a time and are crated during their downtime so even if your dog is unsettled by the presence of other dogs, he can fully participate. Shy dogs gain confidence, distractable dogs gain focus, and busy dogs finally get to excel at a job that tires them out mentally. The owner will be able to more fully appreciate the way his/her dog experiences the world while building a stronger bond of trust and respect with him.
Various levels of Nose Work classes are offered Friday evenings and Saturdays at The Crossing Community Church in New Haven and outdoor locations as weather permits. A limited number of private/semi-private lessons are also available. Call or email Judy for current schedules.
